Jesus is Greater Than Every Stronghold You'll Ever Face

You have never met a perfect person. You will never be a perfect person on this side of eternity. This world has problems. Every life is a beautiful mix of joy and sorrow, trial and victory, conflict and peace, mourning and celebration. But no matter what we face, the good or bad, Jesus is greater. He is before all things, and in him, all things hold together. Colossians 1:17 ESVThis truth must be the primary ethic in our lives if we have a right understanding of life and the right perspective on life’s events. For if something good in our lives becomes greater in our mind than Jesus, if a good thing becomes ultimate, we have fallen into idolatry. Likewise, if something bad or uncomfortable happens, if we face one thousand daily challenges or worse, a tragedy. This can create a wound-never-healing, a stronghold in our life.

A stronghold could be defined as something that you believe God cannot change.

It is something that we live in defeat from. Strongholds are those things in life that we unconsciously ascribe more power to than God. Though we would never say this aloud, when our internal belief system does not line up with the Truth of God’s Kingdom, we have strongholds in our lives. That is why we must constantly seek to understand the Ways of God, the Word of God, the Truth of God, and grow in relationship with the Son of God through His Holy Spirit. In Hosea 4:6 ESV, The Lord declares in the scriptures, “my people perish for lack of knowledge.” In Romans 12:2 ESV, we are told to “be transformed by the renewing of our minds.” We can understand that part of working out our salvation with fear and trembling is by aligning our beliefs with the Truth of God.

So what do you believe is more important than God, really?

How excited do you get about the things of God compared with how excited you get for the Super Bowl? Do you believe your financial situation is beyond the wisdom and ways and the power of God? Do you believe your broken marriage is so broken that the God of the universe cannot repair it? What about success or finding your future spouse? Do those good things, which are a blessing from Him, take His place at the greatest place of focus and affection in your heart today? What about your broken sexual past? Does the blood of Jesus not make ALL things new?

Pray for a spirit of wisdom and revelation. Pray that you may know Him better. Ephesians 1:17 Ask Him to show you those places in your heart where He is not Lord. Ask His Holy Spirit to blow afresh into your broken heart and the dark places of your soul. Ask Him to expose your fears for the lies they are, and ask Him to show you the God-sized dreams you have hidden away and dare to believe Him. He is faithful. And He that began a good work in you will see it to completion. In Jesus Name, Amen.
