Love Over Everything
It’s all about love. It’s always been about love. Love in its purest, most honest and unconditional form. Not the love you have for your favourite flavour of ice-cream or the show you enjoy watching on telly. That’s not how God loves you. God’s love is something else entirely. Agape.
If you really knew just how loved you are, it would change everything. This whole world is held together by love because God is love. Jesus is the exact representation of the Unseen and in Christ you live and move and have your being. Love really does make the world go round, quite literally.
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” - Colossians 1:15-17
And you were made for God’s love. That’s why there are so many love songs, poems, films and works of art. Love is central to the human condition. We simply don’t yet get what that really looks like. One day the blinkers will come off and at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow. Bowing in awe and wonder and under the weight of God’s incredible, unconditional love.
But you don’t have to wait. The invitation is to live in the reality of God’s love today and every day. Talk to Him and do life with Him as though He adores you – because He does!
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!” - 1 John 3:1
Adam’s turning infected humanity’s ability to receive God’s love, but Adam is not the end of the story, he’s just the beginning. Through Adam we grew up with a damaged picture of who God is to us, but through Jesus, the picture is restored. Look to Jesus. Jesus over everything. He is the exact representation of God’s being.
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” - John 15:5
God is for you, not against you. You can approach Him with confidence, the confidence that comes from approaching a loving parent. He’s not trying to trip you up or catch you out. There’s no correct string of words needed for you to have His ear. Formulas and step by step plans are a lie from the enemy!
You are adored with every inch of God’s being because God is love.
As we move into this new year the invitation from God is clear … “Live in My love and let Me show you what that looks like again today.”
Jesus is God and God is love. Love over everything!
” Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3: 12-14
